New version of Desk Doctor with audible 'Hover' warning

The latest version of Desk Doctor, the program that detects, prevents and rehabilitates Repetitive Strain Injury at the computer, has an audible ‘mouse hover’ warning.

Many computer users have the habit of gripping the mouse while thinking or reading from the screen. They may have their finger poised above the mouse button for quite some time, ready to make the next click. The behavior, called 'hovering,' is a common cause of RSI due to a build up of tension in small muscles of the hand and forearm. Desk Doctor software picks up the micro-movements that happen when the body is in contact with the mouse. If these small movements continue without the mouse being clicked, Desk Doctor recognizes that the user is ‘Hovering’ and shows a red mouse warning on the screen. Because of the strong association between mouse hovering and RSI, an optional audible warning has been added in Desk Doctor version 1.3.1.

Furthermore, the new version of Desk Doctor has been optimized to use less system resources than previous versions.

###

About Desk Doctor

By running Desk Doctor, users avoid chronic illnesses, like carpal tunnel syndrome and tendonitis, which are current workplace epidemics. The program deals actively with the precise parts of the body where problems are developing, but, before painful effects of RSI emerge.

With Desk Doctor, computer users make regular assessments of their entire upper body employing orthopedic tests right at the desk. Interpreting these tests, and formulating a special exercise plan for each individual, is at the core of Desk Doctor. The program is the invention of Dr Russ Hornstein, a specialist in musculoskeletal disorders who is also an expert in clinical reasoning. Desk Doctor draws on his specialist know-how to provide personal treatment plans that are much more effective than the one-size-fits-all approach used in other desk-based systems.

Desk Doctor is the only software that provides users a personalized exercise program to focus on the critical areas where the body is most at risk from strain. Targeted exercises (Desk Doctor has over 100 for the upper body) are vital in avoiding developing RSI.

Desk Doctor estimates when an exercise is needed. The program monitors computer activity and calculates a ‘Health Score,’ which is displayed on the screen. Typing and using the mouse decrease the Health Score; taking short breaks and doing Desk Doctor exercises increase it. A low Health Score indicates a higher risk of getting RSI, it is the user’s ‘job’ to do the exercises to keep the Score up. There are no fixed times for doing an exercise; users can take a longer break and do several exercises in succession to top up their Health Score when convenient. This way Desk Doctor lets people fit their RSI prevention and rehabilitation activity into their work schedule, minimizing intrusion. By keeping a good average Health Score Desk Doctor users maintain their musculoskeletal health.

Exercises are presented in high-quality video and performed by a professional exercise coach.

Desk Doctor 1.3.1 is available for Windows and Macintosh. It can be purchased online for $129 at http://www.einspine.com. A 15-day trial can be downloaded.
