Desk Doctor FAQ

What does it take to get going with Desk Doctor?

Desk Doctor is very easy to use. There is virtually nothing to learn. So just load the program, do the Assessment and start getting protected. If you need more help to get going, visit the online tutorial in the Help menu.

How long does the Assessment take?

About 30 minutes. It is best to take some care doing the Assessment as your program of exercises will depend on the answers you give. So we advise you to do this when you have a few quiet moments.

How often should I do the Assessment?

You can take the Assessment as often as you wish. In any case we advise redoing it at least every month, or when you notice different symptoms, to keep up with changes in your general condition.

What data does Desk Doctor collect from my computer?

We only count keystrokes and mouse clicks and measure the types of mouse motion.

Does the program keep my Assessment answers?

No. Desk Doctor uses the answers to create your exercise plan and then immediately removes them from its memory ensuring that your confidentiality is secure. If you wish to save your answers for your own reference, you may save them as a text document from the Assessment results page at the end of the Assessment.

What about setting up my workspace along ergonomic lines?

Desk Doctor is an excellent companion for other measures to make your workplace healthier. Use well established ergonomic guidelines when you setup your work environment.

Can Desk Doctor work with other pointing devices besides a mouse?

Desk Doctor can be used with most pointing devices besides the conventional computer mouse and with most types of keyboard.

Desk Doctor is effective for preventing and rehabilitating RSI when used with:

  • Track balls
  • Ergonomic mouse
  • Touch pads
  • Graphics tablets – not currently supported on Macs
  • IBM Track Point
  • Conventional mouse
  • Conventional keyboard
  • Ergonomic keyboard
  • Dvorak keyboard
  • Split keyboard
  • Laptop computers
  • Desktop computers

Will Desk Doctor interrupt my work?

With Desk Doctor you decide when to exercise based on the Health Score displayed in the Health Monitor. This way your work is not interrupted. You take a break when it is convenient.

How do I know I am doing the exercises properly?

You get maximum benefit from the exercises if you do them close to the way they are demonstrated in the video. Read the accompanying text for extra guidance.

How do I know I am doing the Assessment properly?

There is a button at the bottom of the screen  which starts a video tutorial and another button ‘?’ (question mark) that explains the process via text help.

Why do the exercises change every time I do the Assessment? (How much should they change?)

As your health improves, the types of exercises you receive will change as well as the frequency of certain exercises. This is completely normal and part of the way that Desk Doctor adapts to your current needs.
