De Quervain's, Dupuytren's contracture...

De Quervain's   A common condition of inflammation of the tendon sheath on the thumb side of the wrist. Pain in the front of the wrist or base of the thumb is characteristic. The sheath, due to overuse, is unable to create enough lubricating fluid for the tendon. De Quervain's is caused by repetitive movements such as forceful wrist motions and typing. The main test for De Quervain's syndrome is Finkelstein's orthopedic test. Read how Desk Doctor uses Finkelstein's test and 14 other orthopedic tests to assess your RSI risk.

Dupuytren's contracture   An abnormal thickening of the tough tissue in the palm and fingers that prevents the tendons of the hand being able to move freely. This causes the fingers to bend inwards towards the palm (also referred to as "trigger finger").

Diagnosis   The process of identifying a physical or medical condition by its signs, symptoms and the results of various diagnostic tests or procedures. The conclusion reached through that process is also called a diagnosis.

Diagnostician   A doctor who specializes in diagnosing medical conditions.

Doctor   A licensed health care practitioner capable of diagnosing major medical conditions who has obtained a doctorate and works within the scope of their license.

Dull pain   A pain that is not keenly felt. A low level, persistent pain. Dull pain associated with the abdomen generally indicates some type of digestive upset while dull pain in the muscles and joints is often due to poor joint mechanics or restricted movement of a joint. Dull pain can also be caused by neurologic interruptions. You should speak to your doctor if you experience dull pain.

Dvorak keyboard   An alternative keyboard to the traditional QWERTY keyboard layout. The Dvorak keyboard layout places the most common keys on the central row, including all of the vowels which are on the left hand side of this row. The Dvorak keyboard has been designed specifically to prevent the fingers from being over-stretched during typing. Changing the assignment of keys to Dvorak layout is a built in option on most operating systems. More tips on how to reduce stress at your computer.
