Fascia
Frozen shoulder

Facia, fibrils, finger stretch, Finkelstein's test..

Fascia   Connective tissue which covers almost every tissue in the body. Connective tissue is made of collagen which is both flexible and resilient; however it does not renew itself quickly and ages over time. See Adhesions for more about problems with fascia.

Fibrils   A small component of a muscle. Each individual muscle in composed of fibrils (threadlike muscle fibers) that form groups called fascicles. A group of facicles make up an entire muscle. See Muscle and Muscle Strain for more.

Finger stretch digits 2 and 3   The Desk Doctor test which assesses the flexibility of the muscles controlling the index and middle fingers. A decrease in muscle flexibility is an early sign of RSI. Tight, inflexible muscles are more susceptible to injury and fatigue. Read more about other Desk Doctor tests and how your personal exercise plan is created.

Finger stretch digits 4 and 5   The Desk Doctor test which assesses the flexibility of the muscles controlling the ring and little fingers. A decrease in muscle flexibility is an early sign of RSI. Tight, inflexible muscles are more susceptible to injury and fatigue. Read more about the other Desk Doctor tests and how your personal exercise plan is created.

Finkelstein's test   An orthopedic test used to assess whether there are signs associated with DeQuervain's tenosynovitis. Desk Doctor software uses the responses to Finkelstein's test and other orthopedic testes to create your plan of prevention and rehabilitation exercises. Click here to read more.

Flexion   The act of bending a joint using a flexor muscle. Movement toward the fetal position.

Flexors   A category of muscles that bends a limb or body part toward the trunk (as opposed to extensors).

Foramina   (plural of foramen) A natural hole in a bone allowing for passage of blood vessels, nerves or muscles. Vertebral foramina (between the bones of the spine) allow for passage of nerves to and from the spinal cord. Pinching of the nerves at these junction can cause pain, tingling and weakness in the arms or legs. Misalignment of the spinal bones (vertebrae), excessive tension of the neck muscles, poor joint mechanics (movement) and swelling are the most common causes for this type of pinching.

Frozen shoulder   A condition characterized by painful movement and severe restriction of the shoulder. The medical term is adhesive capsulitis which is caused by inflammation of the rotator cuff group of muscles in the shoulder.
