Neck Flexion
Nerve impingement

Neck flexion, neck lateral flexion, nerve..

Neck Flexion   The action (and position) of bending the head forward (chin to chest).

Neck Flexion (Desk Doctor)   An orthopedic test which assesses the flexibility of neck joints as well as the supporting musculature. See Desk Doctor Assessment for more information.

Neck Lateral Flexion   The action (and position) of bending the head to the side (ear to shoulder).

Neck Lateral Flexion (Desk Doctor)   An orthopedic test which assesses the flexibility of neck joints as well as the supporting musculature. See Desk Doctor Assessment for more information.

Nerve   An enclosed bundle of fibers that transmit electrical messages between the brain, spinal cord and other areas of the body. These messages convey sensory or motor function information.

Nerve compression   Occurs when pressure is applied to a nerve either by a bone, cartilage, a tight muscle or an outside force. It can cause damage to the myelin sheath which insulates the nerve and to the nerve itself in significant cases. Nerves typically do not begin to function normally immediately after the compressive force is removed. Damaged nerves take weeks or months to return to normal. In some cases normal function may not return at all.

Nerve conduction velocity test   A widely used test to detect nerve problems. By applying a small electrical voltage at different points of the arm it is possible to follow the nerve signal. A problem with a nerve is indicated when the signals travels poorly.

Nerve impingement   "Pinching" of the nerve often occurs at the spine when a nerve gets trapped between 2 spinal bones or compressed by an unhealthy intervertebral disc. The initial symptoms may be tingling, numbness, burning sensation or shooting pain and can affect the neck, back, hips, legs and arms as well as the feet and hands.
